Bill was born on February 14, 1944 in Virginia, Minnesota to Enid Van Hala Clarke and Edward Treadwell Clarke, MD. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Edward Treadwell Clarke, Jr. Bill graduated from Rice University with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree. He then worked as a CPA for fifty years.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Stephanie (Taylor) Clarke; daughter Tammy Kee Clarke and two grandchildren, Randolph Van Hala Hurley and Lauren Forrest Hurley. He adored his family and was enthusiastic about guiding and encouraging them in all their ventures. Bill had a strong faith; loved his family, his work, his friends, and his farm in Montgomery, TX.
In his professional life, he worked for Peat, Marwick & Mitchell Accounting Firm, which later became KPMG, where he made partner in 1974; Bay Houston Towing Company where he was their CFO; The Wortham Foundation where he was their Comptroller; and the William Van Hala Clarke, CPA firm, where he did it all!
Bill was an amazing and fascinating man with incredible gifts – a few of those being estate planning, finances, cooking and entertaining. He also enjoyed storytelling - as he always said, “Don’t let the facts get in the way of a good story!”
A Memorial Service celebrating Bill’s life will be Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Sanctuary at Grace Presbyterian Church, 10221 Ella Lee Lane, Houston, 77042.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Parish School, Grace Presbyterian Church or The Colonneh Club of Houston.
