

William J. Miller, Jr. (Bill), age 99, of Houston, Texas, was born on May 1, 1927, at the Brodhead Mine near Aguilar, Colorado, to William and Katherine Miller. He was a kind-hearted man with a keen sense of humor who was loved by all who knew him. He will be especially remembered for his love of his family and a few close friends, golfing, fishing and his frequent travels to visit family who lived in various places across the United States.
Bill left Colorado in the mid 1940’s during the World War II conflict to join the United States Merchant Marines where he was enlisted from 1944 to 1946. He then joined the United States Army, 11th Airborne Division, where he qualified as a Parachutist. He quickly attained the rank of Sergeant while he was stationed in Hokkaido, Japan. After transitioning to the United States Army Reserve, he finally left the military with an Honorable Discharge in 1954.
After leaving the military, he worked in the television industry in Hollywood, California, in post-production editing labs where he worked on well-known television shows such as Gunsmoke, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Hawaii Five-0, and many others. In the early 1970’s, he transferred to Houston, Texas, where he supervised the film lab for a government contractor to NASA, supporting the Apollo and Space Shuttle missions until his retirement.
Bill was preceded in death by his daughter Shelley, his sister Chris and brother Ray. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Mary. He is also survived by his sons Ron (wife Georgia) and Bill (partner Michael), and his grandchildren Lauren Gutfranski (husband John) and Nathan Miller.
