William Dewitt Root

William was born to George Dewitt Root and Mattie Louise Hambrick, July 20, 1929, in Houston, Texas. He graduated from Pasadena High School in 1948 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Technical Education and a Master of Science degree in Occupational Education from the University of Houston in 1984 and 1986. He married Kathryn M. Root and they lived together in Pasadena and South Houston, Texas. Together they raised 4 children.

He is survived by his two sons, David Root and wife Jeanine, and William Root and wife Windy. He also leaves to cherish his memory a nephew, Guy Stanfield and wife Suzanne.

He was preceded in death by Kathryn Root (wife), Jennifer Matsuda (step-daughter), and Byron Howell (step-son).

William worked as a welder for Champion Paper Company for 30 years and as a vocational educations instructor at San Jacinto Community College for 16 years. He enjoyed water skiing, fishing, hunting, and making people laugh. He was also actively involved in Southmore/Parkgate Community Church and the Gideons International.

A visitation for William will be held Saturday, January 21, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home. A funeral service will occur Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 1:00 PM. A committal service will follow, Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 2:00 PM, Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.

Serving pallbearers; Guy Stanfield, Michael Wharry, Reagan Boyd, William Root, Joshua Thomas, and Johnathan Kirchenwitz, with Honorary William J. Root, and Ryan Ringuet.
