

William Percell Singletary February 7, 1934 - July 19, 2025 William Percell Singletary, of Houston, Texas died July 19,2025. He was 91. William passed away at his daughter’s home, surrounded by his love ones, after a brief medical struggle.
William was born on February 7, 1934, to George C. and Iretta (Teague) Singletary in the Houston Heights. He attended Booker T Washington High School. He pledged Alpha-Phi-Alpha and obtained bachelors degree from Huston-Tillotson University, class of 1955.
William Singletary worked various jobs, his first as the band director of Van Vleck High School. He was the band director and Math teacher at A.W. Jackson High School. He worked briefly as a band director in Bay City before transitioning into Management at Hughes Tool Oil Company. He finished off his working career with North Forest ISD as an Assistant Director with Kirby Middle School. He retired after 11 years of service and the this award winning band. He was also apart of Houston’s own La Big Band, playing his beloved saxophone.
William is survived by children, Scheherazade’s Smith, Fentress Smith, Phanesuaria Singletary, Dejarlais Singletary-Ellis, his brother Julius Tyrone Singletary, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, George C. and Iretta Singletary; brothers George C. Singletary Jr., John Aaron Singletary, sons (with ex-wife Evangeline) William P: Singletary Jr., Michael Singletary, and his beloved wife of 45 years, Lois Singletary.
A memorial service will be held for William Percell Singletary at Carl Barnes Funeral Home on August 1, 2025, 6 pm - 8 pm. His personal request was not to have a traditional service. Jazz music and fond stories is all he wanted.
