Willie Fay Smith Coverston was born March 19, 1921 in Houston, Texas to William Dock and Jeffie Dora Smith. She met her husband Delean “Covey” Myers Coverston in Houston, Texas, they were married in 1943, and separated only by death after 42 years of marriage.
Willie Fay was the oldest of three outgoing, friendly sisters. She loved games and always had a new one to try at social gatherings. She never met a stranger and was loved by everyone she met. She tried to be present at or shortly after the birth of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and even friends.
She enjoyed crocheting and nearly every family member received a handmade blanket at some point in their life. She also loved cooking and was one of the best. She had her staple recipes but wouldn’t hesitate to try something new.
Willie Fay was preceded in death by her husband Delean Myers Coverston, parents Dock and Jeffie Smith, son William Delean Coverston, stepdaughter Elinor Sue Coverston Buckles, and her two sisters Dorothy Ray Sutton and Juanita Pfister. She is survived by her daughter Cherry Camille Peters; grandchildren: Karen and husband Jim Gilbert, Greg and wife Debra Coverston, Kelly and husband Sam Baugher, and Lee Ann Harrison; great-grandchildren: Taylor McKamy, Chase Gilbert, Jeff Klipple, Jason Klipple, Connor Adams, Sabrina Adams, Elizabeth Wilde, Christina Page, Tabaitha Kaye, and Kris Popish; and 5 great-great-grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services will be held at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home (13102 North Freeway, Houston, Texas 77060) followed by a brief graveside service.
