Xavier Rey Purata, born April 23, 2008, passed away suddenly April 11, 2026. He was an amazing son, lil brother, uncle, and loyal friend whose presence brought light to those around him, and whose memory will be cherished with enduring love.
From an early age, Xavier embraced life with courage and curiosity. In high school he played football, participated in JROTC, love culinary class and enjoyed his teachers. He also enjoyed working out at the gym, his snakes Luna and Kamikaza, playing video games, door dashing food but above all hanging out with his friends. Moments that reflected both his spirited energy and the easy camaraderie he shared with others.
Xavier was deeply family oriented and grounded in faith, with strong religious roots that shaped the way he cared for people. He was known for a gentle, patient heart and a thoughtful nature—qualities that showed in everyday ways, including the notes he loved leaving for his mom in when he headed out the door. Those small messages, offered with warmth and constancy, remain a lasting reminder of his devotion and selfless love.
He found joy in simple, meaningful pleasures: fishing, spending time with friends and family members, and the laughter that naturally followed him. Outgoing and full of life, Xavier was often seen smiling, and his humor and charisma made others feel welcome and at ease. His kindness was generous, compassionate, and quietly dependable expressed through helping hands, loyal friendship, and a steady willingness to show up for the people he loved.
Xavier also worked part time for the Houston Astros Baseball, where his reliability and strong work ethic were evident. In all he did, he carried himself with a bright spirit and an inspiring determination that will not be forgotten.
Xavier is survived by his mother and father, Annette and Rey Purata; his brother, Vincent Ortiz (Sophia); his sisters, SSG Ortiz Valerie and Haley Purata; grandmother, Gloria Escamilla; his nephew, Vincent Anthony Jr.; and his niece, Gianna Nicole Ortiz. As well as his loving aunts, uncles, numerous cousins and countless friends who adored him.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Eugenio Balderas Jr.; his godmother/aunt, Natalie Macias; his parental grandparents, Raymundo and Natalia Purata.
Pallbearers will be Aaron Villarreal Jr., CJ Sims Jr., Leonardo Baltazar, Freddy Ayala, Javion Galindo, John Macias Jr., Miguel Macias, and Nicholas Narvaez.
Though his time was far too short, Xavier’s impact was profound. His bravery, loyalty, and caring heart—so freely given—will continue to live on in the stories shared, the love held close, and the quiet reminders of a young man who brought joy simply by being himself.
