Yolanda G. Velasquez

Yolanda attended Brownsville High School, where she later graduated from class of 1971. Yolanda played a big part in helping her parents to nurture and care for her younger siblings until she married Jose Velasquez on December 17, 1971. She later moved from Brownsville, TX to Houston, TX to start her new married life. In 1974 she gave birth to her only son Timothy.

Yolanda loved to shop for good deals/ bargains. She also enjoyed being a seamstress. She loved baking and cooking for her family, she was very social and knew how to entertain people with her firecracker attitude. Yolanda was a dedicated fan of Elvis and WWE Wrestling.

Yolanda is preceded in death by her father, Mack Navidad Guerra Sr.; mother Polly Mayhew and brother, Garry Guerra.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Jose J. Velasquez; son, Timothy G. Velasquez and wife Jessica; stepfather, Rodney Mayhew; sisters, Dianne Guerra and Zina Guerra; brothers, Mack Guerra, John Guerra, Perry Guerra, Carl Guerra, Randy Guerra and Scott Mayhew. Yolanda also leaves behind her grandchildren, Claudia Velasquez, Victoria Vega, Thomas Velasquez, Cymon T. Velasquez and Roman T. Velasquez; great grandchildren, Jayden Loya, Vanessa Vega, Christopher Gomez and Andrew Gomez.

A visitation for Yolanda will be held Saturday, July 23, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023, followed by a funeral service from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
