Gertrude Yvonne Miller was born Gertrude Yvonne Kellicut in Gary, South Dakota on July 5, 1931, turning 90 this year, until her passing into heaven on April 26, 2021. She was the only child of George and Olive Kellicut and cousin to many with lasting friendships throughout the years. She met her would-be husband, Virgil Dale Miller, while in college at Midwestern University. She was a band member playing the clarinet on a music scholarship and he, the school photographer. After Dale was crowned King of Midwestern, Yvonne followed the next year as Queen.

In 1952, Dale and Yvonne married and moved to Austin, Texas, so Dale could continue his education at the University of Texas. Yvonne was a lab technician when they moved to Houston. She decided to become a homemaker after adopting three children, Todd, Jodi, and Robyn. Her children can attest that she rarely lost her temper, and was always supportive, encouraging, wise, and kind. Yvonne sacrificed for her family; never selfish for her own gains, but and always giving to her family and friends.

Yvonne will be remembered for her 50-plus years of service to the Methodist church, her advocacy of theosophical prayer, and her dedication to the St. Luke’s United Methodist Church choir. Never afraid to talk about Jesus and always determined that her children went to church, she was open to everyone about the Holy Spirit and the healings and miracles of Jesus Christ in today’s times.

Yvonne enjoyed the times after Dale’s retirement, traveling in their RV across all states, and loved watching birds whether from her living room window or from the window of her RV.

Yvonne’s parents and husband preceded her in death, and she is survived by her three children and their families: Todd Miller and wife Jennifer, Jodi Hockinson and husband Craig, and Robyn Miller; grandchildren Stormy Chalmers and husband Mark, Jake Miller, Victoria Kissinger and husband Joey, Caleb Miller and Padyn Miller, Patrick Schneiter and Jennifer Schneiter; great grandchildren Gabby and Victor Chalmers.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 pm on Friday, April 30 at the Waltrip Funeral Directors located at 1415 Campbell Rd. Houston, Texas 77055 and will open for family at 5pm. Services will be held 2:00 pm Saturday May 1, at Spring Branch Presbyterian Church located at 1215 Campbell Rd. Houston, Texas 77055.

We were such good friends for so many years. Then our family moved to Virginia and I lost touch. Very sad about that. I will always remember Yvonne's sweet smile, prayers, support, and friendship. She was a treasure. And now she is with Dale. Happy reunion.

Love to all the family,

The visits of Aunt Yvonne, Dale and kids were much anticipated and enjoyed by our whole family on the farm near Iroquois, SD. My mom, LaJune flew alone on a plane only once which was to visit Yvonne, it was so exciting for her! The video is amazing, thank- you. Each of her smiles is exactly the same, love just pours out from her sweet face. It’s such a blessing that the strength of our family bonds are intact no matter years or miles. God’s healing comfort on your family,

Yvonne and Dale were such lovely people, always so joyful, and positive. I remember with fondness how much my parents and family enjoyed their visits to SD from the exotic land far away, Texas. I remember watching the aunts and uncles playing Som-r-set, and listening to the house echo with such laughter. God bless you all in your grief and loss, just know that your mom/grandma/great grandmother was a Jesus lover who now enjoys the eternity he promised. May your grief and sadness be tempered knowing she lived a full and blessed life. God be near you all. Kermit Culver

Yvonne always had a smile and a giggle...but she was serious about loving God's children! She served as a Theophostic Prayer Minister (TPM) at Serenity Retreat for many years. She loved seeing people set free from their troubles and pain by God. The staff and volunteers of Serenity Retreat thank God for the gift of Yvonne!

Yvonne and I were close friends for many years at St. Luke's UMC and Chancel Choir. We sang together in Yesterday's Children and had a wonderful time and lots of laughs, as Dale drove all of us in their RV to various locations to perform. I tried to locate her over the years after she left St. Luke's, but had no luck finding where she was. My deepest symphony to all her precious children that she adored.
