Barbara A. Holloway, age 80, of St. Petersburg, FL., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at Suncoast Hospice in St. Petersburg. Barbara was born to Thelma and Curtis Smith, October 12th, 1937, in Birmingham, Alabama. In 1959, Barbara married Shelton Holloway and together they made their home in Huntsville, Alabama where they lived for more than 50 years. Barbara worked for Boeing and Intergraph but most of her career was spent at CSC as a Human Resources Benefits Specialist until her retirement. She enjoyed bowling on a league in her younger years and was an enthusiastic Bridge player her entire life. She belonged to several Bridge clubs and when she wasn’t playing Bridge with friends, she would often spend hours playing online. After retirement, Barbara and Shelton spent much of their time at their vacation home on Wolf Bay in Orange Beach, AL. She enjoyed traveling and visited Italy, Germany, Hawaii and other points of interest in the United States. A lover of music, Barbara enjoyed many bands from the 50’s, but her lifelong favorite was Elvis Presley.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Thelma and Curtis W. Smith and her husband Shelton E. Holloway. Barbara and her beloved dachshunds moved to St. Petersburg, FL after Shelton passed away, where she lived near their two children for the rest of her life. She is survived by her daughter, Tracey Holloway, her son, Kipp Holloway, her sister, Margaret (David) Campbell, her brother Curtis (Leah) Smith, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 1:00 pm with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm at Valhalla Funeral Home in Huntsville, AL. Interment of her ashes will follow at Valhalla Cemetery.
