Benjamin “Ben” Howell, a life-long resident of Madison County, AL, died unexpectedly Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at the age of 41 while in Bishop, TX. Ben was met in Heaven by his mother, Sherry Duncan, and his devoted grandmothers, Annie Seaton and Annie Helums.
He is survived by his wife, Amanda Jackson Howell; his children, Nikki, Justin and Wyatt; his sister, Bambi McGaha (Colt); his brother, Gregg Howell; his bonus siblings, Gwen Perry (Jeff), Jan Jones (Decon), Kenny McFarlen (Leigh Ann), and Mike McFarlen (Dawn); his loving aunts, Annetta McFarlen and Phyllis Proehl (Gert); and his nephew and niece, Wilson and Natalee Brannon . Ben was born in Huntsville on April 11, 1978.
He attended Buckhorn High School and worked in construction. He was the owner of Tennessee Valley Roofing and Construction. He married Mandy on September 7, 1995 and on April 15, the following year, along came his Daddy’s girl, Nikki. Justin and Wyatt followed in October of 1999 and October of 2001. Through the years, Mandy remained the love of his life and his children were his pride and joy. He loved them dearly.
Ben was a loving father and an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting and fishing and passed his love of fishing down to his sons and his nephew. He won the Madison County Fishing Rodeo twice and aspired to be the next Bill Dance as a teenager. He never got his own fishing show, but he put food on his family’s table in abundance and he was proud to have the ability to do that. He loved the mountains. If there was game to be hunted, mud to be played in or rocks to be climbed; he wanted to be there to enjoy it. He was patient and kind. He was Daddy to his children, Bubba to his sister and, affectionately, Big Ben to his friends. To say that Ben will be missed is an understatement. He was deeply loved and cherished by friends and family.
Services will be limited to family and close friends only and will be announced at a later date by Valhalla Funeral Home.
