OBITUARY

Dr. Billy Sam Moore

August 24, 1936October 16, 2020

Dr. Billy Sam Moore was born August 24, 1936, and passed from this life surrounded by family on October 16, 2020. He is survived by his dear wife, Trudy, of 59 years, who has been a faithful companion and encouragement in raising their family, and in their walk with God. He is also survived by his daughter Cindy Richardson (husband Dane), and his son Dr. Jack Moore (wife Andrea) and five grandchildren (Austin Richardson [wife Tori], Maci Moore, Savannah Richardson, Jackson Moore, and Tinsley Moore). He is also survived by his sister, Mary Jo Tuly, of Nashville and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sister, Jessie Lou Duncan, formerly of Lewisburg, Tennessee. Dr. Moore was born and raised in a home his grandfather built on a small farm in Petersburg, Tennessee. It was here he learned the value of hard work. He graduated from Petersburg High School, and completed his pre-medical education at Lipscomb University. He graduated from Vanderbilt School of Medicine, where he also did his internship and residency in Pathology. He and his family spent two years in the Navy, stationed at Camp Pendleton, California during the Vietnam War. Dr. Moore moved his family to Huntsville to practice medicine among a great group of pathologists at Pathology Associates, P.A. Dr. Moore was a member of the Mayfair Church of Christ and worked with the youth, taught Bible classes, and was involved in mission work, particularly in Thailand, Scotland, and Cuba. He never lost his love for farm life. Soon after coming to Huntsville, he moved his family to a farm. Dr. Moore involved his family in gardening and raising cattle with the idea of spending time with family and teaching a good work ethic. He loved his children and grandchildren, and made time to spend with them. He was there to participate in all their activities as they grew up. Dr. Moore was a supporter of Christian education and served for many years on the Board of Directors of Madison Academy. He was on the Development Council at Lipscomb University and Harding University. Visitation for Dr. Billy Sam Moore will be held Friday, October 23, 2020 at 12:30 pm at Mayfair Church of Christ. The Celebration of Life Service with military honors will be Friday, October 23, 2020 at 1:30 pm Mayfair Church of Christ. Dr. Billy Sam Moore will be at Valhalla Memory Gardens. I worked for Dr. Moore at Huntsville Diagnostic and also Pathology Associates. I could not have asked for a better employer. He was such a kind and caring person. Prayers for the family during this difficult time.

Dr. Moore was such a gift to everyone. He always had time to listen and help anyway he could. He will be missed by everyone who knew him, but there is no doubt he is in heaven and that is a comfort.
He was a wonderful employer and a great pathologist .
He also had lots of stories (some funny and some frightening to hear about) his gigantic cows and often came to work with bruises and scratches from some of his encounters with them. We teased him that Trudy caused them because he got out of line .
Love to Trudy and the family.

Madison Academy Board of Directors Condolences:

The MA Board of Directors would like to convey our sincere sympathy to Mrs. Trudy and the Moore family on the passing of Dr. Moore.
Dr. Moore was a giant in our community and a staunch moral and financial supporter of our MA family. Madison Academy owes much to Dr. Moore and the Moore family as he volunteered his time and money to this Christian mission. We mourn the loss of our fellow Board member, brother, and Christian man. His legacy will live on in his amazing family as we acknowledge that we have lost one of the truly great ones.

How many wonderful memories he leaves behind! I love the story Trudy told me about Bill coming in from a long day at med school, bearing a bucket of Kentucky Fried chicken. Trudy was so excited, because she wouldn't have to cook. When she opened the bucket, instead of chicken, she found Bill's homework for the night-- a brain he had to dissect!
Bill was a prince of a man, a kind, gentle, person; a friend, a teacher, a fine Christian, and a wonderful example to everyone. He will be missed, but we will see him again!

Dr. Moore always welcomed you with his warm smile. Took time to know you and encourage you. Dr. Moore was a wonderful Christian man and treated everyone with respect. I have enjoyed passing by his house watching him mow the grass and work with the cows or in his garden. Prayers for the family and I know he is with this savior and no more suffering. Blessed beyond measure to have known him

Brother Moore has been a christian role model for many of us in the North Alabama area. He was admired by everyone and will surely be missed. Knowing he was a Christian brings us all comfort that he is with our Lord and Savior. May the family be blessed and comforted during this separation. Praying for the family!

Billy Sam never changed. As a classmate at Petersburg High School he was a kind, gentle person and remained that way all his life. A wonderful athlete in basketball and football. What a blessing to have known someone like him. RIP

I had the pleasure and honor to know Billy for close to 40 years in the registered cattle business. Having dealt with many cattleman from through out the U.S., Canada and many other countries, I can truly state that there was not a more courteous and honest man and that the phrase a TRUE Southern Gentleman fits him perfectly.
