Charles Lawrence Godwin

Reverend Charles Lawrence Godwin, age 94, of Meridianville, Alabama passed away on Friday, May 9, 2025. Reverend Charles Godwin was born May 24, 1930, in Clanton, Alabama, to Presley Albert and Nellie Starling Godwin. He graduated from high school in Columbus, Georgia, then attended and graduated from Howard College (now Samford University) with a Bachelor’s Degree of Divinity.

On Christmas Day 1954, he married the love of his life, Sue Eudy. After their marriage, Reverend Charles Godwin enrolled in Southern Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, where he graduated with a Master’s Degree of Divinity in 1963. Reverend Charles Godwin pastored churches in Notasulga, Alabama; Muscle Shoals, Alabama; Louisville, Kentucky; Bellbrook, Ohio; Cullman, Alabama (where he was Director of Missions); and Huntsville, Alabama. Reverend Charles Godwin enjoyed wood carving, travel, golf, reading and volunteer ministry work.

Reverend Charles Godwin is survived by his wife of over 70 years, Sue Godwin, son Mark Godwin, daughter Tara Godwin, son Scott Godwin, and grandson Matthew Godwin.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, from 1pm until 2pm at The Valhalla Funeral Home Celebration Chapel 698 Winchester Rd NE Huntsville, AL 35811. A Celebration Of Life Service will begin at 2pm with burial to follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
