Christopher Allen Shaw

December 1, 1971 - February 6, 2026

Chris was born in Hartselle, AL. His family moved to Athens when he was 2. He attended East Limestone schools from K-12. In 1995, he graduated the ITT Technical Institute in Dallas, TX with a degree in Electrical Engineering Technology. He spent his career in Dallas, Nashville, and Atlanta working as a software developer and senior software engineer.

Chris was a builder at heart and found joy working with his hands. Whether restoring a project car, assembling RC kits, or diving into whatever hands-on project captured his interest, he always seemed to have something in progress. He also loved to cook, and was known for preparing big, hearty meals. ; especially at family gatherings where his dishes were always a welcome treat.

After moving to Atlanta in 2018, he discovered a deep love of the outdoors. He joined a local hiking group and spent countless weekends exploring the North Georgia mountains. An avid motorcyclist, Chris found peace and exhilaration on the winding roads of Suches, GA, and the scenic stretches of eastern Tennessee and western North Carolina. In 2021, he achieved one of his proudest accomplishments - completing a solo through-hike of the Appalachian Trail. A significant feat only achieved by 20% of those who endeavor to start, Chris completed the journey in six months and three days, a testament to his determination and independent spirit.

Chris is survived by his mother, Sherry Childs (Robert Childs), his brother, Keith Shaw (Katrina McKinney), his nephew, Ryan Shaw and niece, Caroline Shaw.

According to Chris’s wishes, his ashes will be scattered at a private family ceremony in the Georgia mountains and along the Appalachian Trail he loved so much. The family is grateful for the many calls and texts from friends and neighbors, and to the outpouring of support in the days following Chris’s passing. Instead of flowers, a donation to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy or the American Heart Association would be a great way to honor Chris.
