Dan Nedelcu

Dan Nedelcu, 66, of Huntsville Alabama died Wednesday, December 16th 2020 in Leeds, Alabama surrounded by loved ones in the comfort of his daughter’s home. He was born January 1st, 1954 to Toma and Elisaveta Nedelcu in Moinești România. He married Steluța Ioana Petre on September 25th 1980 in Constanța România. Dan was preceded in death by Steluța Nedelcu in Huntsville Alabama on February 12th, 2014.

He was a concert violinist and violist for over 45 years and an avid educator of music at various organizations including Middle Tennessee State University, Alabama A&M, and most recently Lake Guntersville Music Academy. After graduating from the Conservatul “George Enescu” din Iasi, he acted as the principal violist for the Constanța Symphony Orchestra in Romania with 5 European and 2 International tours. He was the principal violist for the Murfreesboro Symphony, the Shoals Symphony, and performed both violin and viola for the North Mississippi Orchestra. His work as a chamber ensemble coach and performer will forever be remembered as the highest caliber of his profession. Dan profoundly changed the lives of his students by opening up a new musical dimension. He helped them to see things with a creative and deeply meaningful perspective. He was the light of life for those close to him and his indomitable spirit and spark will be held close in thankful remembrance. He is survived by 1 daughter and her husband (Andrada Nedelcu and James Puckett in Leeds, Alabama) and 2 sons and a daughter in law (Adrian Nedelcu in Atlanta, Georgia and Emanuel and Rachel Nedelcu in Huntsville, Alabama). His 3 grandchildren Alexandru, Michael, and Antony Nedelcu will miss him greatly.

The visitation will be Sunday, December 20th at Valhalla Funeral Home (698 Winchester Rd NE, Huntsville, AL 35811) between 5-7pm with a prayer in the Greek Orthodox Tradition at 6:30pm. The funeral will be conducted at Holy Cross – St. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church (3021 University Dr, Huntsville, AL 35816) Monday, December 21st at 11am. The wake will follow immediately after service at the Space Dome House (349 Bell Circle Huntsville AL 35811) as graveside will be family only.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Lake Guntersville Music Academy or your favorite orchestra.
