He was preceded in death by his parents, William Cowan Freeman and Eula Mary Lou Freeman, and his infant twin brothers, Roy and Troy Freeman.
David is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Linda Joyce Sanders Freeman; his children, Tim Freeman (Beth), Pam Coppett (Johnny), and Samuel Freeman (Stacy); his siblings, Henry Freeman (Yvonne), Aubrey Freeman (Peggy), Edna Louise Sharp (Johnny), Glenda Curtis, Betty Smith (Leo), and Charlotte Freeman; as well as many cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
David was a faithful Christian who worshipped at West Huntsville Church of Christ for over 50 years. He lived his life by Matthew 5:41: “And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.” He had a servant’s heart and was always willing to help others—whether driving the church van to bring others to worship, mowing lawns for widows, building access ramps for disabled members of the congregation, or creating a treehouse for his grandchildren. Everyone who met him was greeted with a warm smile and a loving hug. He was deeply devoted to his wife, children, and grandchildren, and he lived as an example of putting Christ first in all things.
David had a lifelong love of country music and spent many years singing and playing. In retirement, he enjoyed going to the Senior Center to play music with “The Jammers,” as well as hosting jam sessions at home with his son and grandsons.
He worked for 48 years as an upholsterer at Artcraft Upholstery under Bill and Ricky Tallent. Over the years, he honed his craft and took great pride in his work.
Whether he was called “Daddy” or “Papa,” his family knew he could fix anything. He was always tinkering—building toys, repairing broken ones for his grandchildren, or creating something special for his wife.
Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing he is no longer suffering and is rejoicing with the Lord.
Services will be held at Valhalla Funeral Home on Saturday, April 18, 2026 with a visitation from 1:00-3:00 PM. Funeral will begin at 3:00 PM with a burial to follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
