Dennis James Underwood, age 70, of Madison, Alabama, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025. Dennis was born in Michigan but primarily resided in Alabama.
Dennis was a proud Air Force veteran who served his country from 1973 to 1977 at Craig Air Force Base in Alabama, where he worked as an airplane mechanic and aircraft maintenance technician. He carried that same dedication and precision throughout his life, whether he was working on electronics, managing his own businesses, or repairing fishing reels.
After his service, Dennis continued to pursue his love of technology, earning an Associate’s Degree in Applied Technologies in Electronics and a Bachelor of Science in Technical Management from DeVry University. He later founded and ran two businesses—High-End Systems and Compu Works—where his technical skills and problem-solving abilities shone through in everything he did.
But beyond his accomplishments, during his retirement years, he had more time to enjoy fishing with his brothers, various cousins, and nephews. He even found a niche in the eBay world, repairing and selling fishing reels. It wasn’t just work to him—it was something that brought him peace, joy, and connection with others who shared the same love for the water.
Dennis was preceded in death by his mother, Janice Odell Underwood; his father, James (Jim) Underwood; his stepmother,
Shirley Underwood; his brother, Steve Bradford Underwood; and his sister, Peggy Burch.
He is survived by his beloved children, Lucky, Lonnie, and Donnie Underwood; two cherished granddaughters, Theresa and Toni Underwood, who brought him great pride and joy; and his siblings Jacqueline Vandivort (Steve), Paula Holden (Troy), Bobby Underwood, Jeannie Cartwright (Daniel), and James “Jamie” C. Underwood Jr. (Tammy). He also leaves behind many deeply loved uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Dennis will be remembered for his generous heart, sharp mind, and the steady, dependable way he cared for those he loved. His family and friends will miss him deeply and cherish the memories he leaves behind.
A visitation will be held at Valhalla Funeral Home, located at 698 Winchester Rd NE, Huntsville, Alabama, on Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will take place at the same venue on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 2:00 pm.
