

Dorothy Anne Shine Harris affectionately known as “Doll” was born June 16, 1937, to the late Dorthula Harris and Girle Shine. She transitioned from labor to reward on July 14, 2021. Doll professed her faith in Christ as a young girl and grew in grace, love, wisdom, and knowledge of the lord. The grace of God was exemplified through her acts of kindness and love for others.
Doll was preceded in death by her loving companion, Thomas Earl Hammonds, four brothers: Thomas Ragland Sr., Willie E. McField, John Henry McField, and Frank Ragland Jr., one sister, Mary Annett Robinson.
Doll was enthusiastic about life, she was independent, a loving mother and grandmother. She had a great love for people she inspired many during her lifetime with her genuine kindness and goodness. Her home was often the neighborhood gathering place for family and friends. Everyone was always welcome at the family home that overflowed with laughter, love and good food. Doll enjoyed bingo, all sports and watching old westerns. Throughout the course of her life, she remained steadfast in her faith and was a constant source of encouragement and hope to all who came her way. She was a prayer warrior for her children as well as the community. Doll trusted God with all her heart, mind, body and soul until her death. She believed in the words of the apostle Paul when he wrote, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; (2 Timothy 4:7). Doll will be sorely missed.
Doll held many positions in her community. Throughout her life, she was a community activist for the Huntsville Housing Authority, Madison County Board of Registrars, served on many community boards, traveled to several conferences as a delicate for her community, restaurant stewardess as well as entrepreneur in cleaning services. She was also a loving caretaker and nanny for the Fanning family.
Memories of Dorothy (Doll) will forever be cherished by her seven children: Dutchess (James) Nicholas, Huntsville, AL; Eunice (Cleven) Adams, New Market, AL; James (Marie) Shine, Diane Shine, Cynthia Harris (Oliver) all of Huntsville, AL; Robert Harris Jr. Riverside, CA and Chris (Queena) Harris, Huntsville, AL; one sister-in-law, Betty Jones McField, Chicago, IL. She leaves eighteen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
