Elisabeth Arehart, 87 of Owens Cross Roads, Alabama passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2019. Mrs. Arehart was born in Erding, Germany on February 20, 1931. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Thomas Arehart, her parents and two siblings.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Anita Schmitt and her husband Mark, her son Arthur and his wife Susan, her son Chris and his wife Maria, grandchildren Carmen (Robert) Belflower, Craig (Abigail) Schmitt, Shayenne Arehart, great-grandchildren Jillian, Claire, and Bryson, extended family and friends.
Elisabeth (Lisa to her friends) was born and raised in a small village in Bavaria, Germany. Her family endured the tragedies of WWII, losing their eldest son. She met and married Technical Sergeant Arthur Thomas Arehart, whom she met while working on the U.S. Air Force Base, in February 1957. They were married for almost 60 years until his death in 2016.
When their tour in Germany ended, Lisa and Art moved back to the U.S. and were stationed to Michigan, Hawaii, South Carolina, Mississippi, and Kansas. After 30 years of active duty, they retired to their beloved Colorado in 1975 where they lived for the next 40 years, first in Aurora and then in Colorado Springs. Huntsville, Alabama was their last home, where they moved to be closer to family.
Lisa was a proud military spouse, supporting various veteran groups and volunteering countless hours at Fitzsimmons Army Base. She loved the outdoors, recreational skiing and competitive running. Lisa and Art completed three marathons and many other shorter races.
A funeral Mass officiated by Father Michael MacMahon will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on February 2, 2019 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church at 625 Airport Road SW in Huntsville, Alabama. A private interment at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in her honor.
