Elizabeth Louise "Lenhart" Bland, best known as “Betty”, was born in Wapakoneta, Ohio on Easter Sunday April 5th, 1942. She grew up in the small town of Spencerville, Ohio and attended nursing school at St. Rita’s Hospital School of Nursing. She met the man of her life S/Sgt Larry Reitman Bland after a trip to Washington DC. Larry and Betty were married on May 18th, 1968, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Spencerville, Ohio. They were blessed with 3 children (Debra, Mark, and John).
Larry and Betty retired in the Redstone Arsenal area. Betty was a kind, devoted, and loving mother. If you knew her, you knew that she loved God, her family, and her country. She was fiercely loyal to her friends and would always advocate for them. She was the most trusting person and would fall for her children’s jokes and pranks often. She loved to laugh and she probably knew better.
She was a devoted Catholic and was very active at the Bicentennial Chapel on Redstone Arsenal, AL. better known as Our Lady of the Valley. She loved arts and crafts and would spend hours painting, crocheting, and doing needle stitch.
She would want everyone to celebrate her life and she would be grateful for all the friends and family that are remembering her. She would find joy and peace if remembering her brings a smile to your face.
On September 25th, 2025 Betty entered eternal life with her family by her side. Betty is preceded in death by parents; Al and Rosemary Lenhart, her husband; Larry, daughter; Debbie, brothers; Frank, Paul, and Gene, and her sisters; Mary Ann, Martha Ann, and Margaret.

Visitation for Betty will be held Wednesday, October 1, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Valhalla Funeral Home, 698 Winchester Rd, Huntsville, AL. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 PM. Betty will be laid to rest in Faith Memorial Park, Madison, AL.
As we weep in this valley of tears, we know that Heaven gained a new angel and that while the world is a little less bright, Heaven is having the greatest celebration.
Eternal Rest grant unto her O Lord: Let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and all the souls of all the faithful departed through the Mercy of God rest in peace.
