Obituary of Elsie Harris Austin
Today we celebrate the life of Elsie Harris Austin Born 12/14/1925 in Statesville, North Carolina. She went to her Heavenly Home on 5/9/2022 She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Blake W. Austin, her parents, Lee Roy and Bertie Harris, and brothers, Gordon and Nig Harris. She is survived by her 3 daughters, Gayle Balmut (John), Teri Winkler (Jay), Suzanne Stripling (Steve), her sister Betty Sherrill and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a loving Grandmother to 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. There is a saying, one life lived, many touched. Memories are what ties family and friends together and we treasure each of them and each of you. We will always continue to remember her in a thousand different ways. She was an amazing seamstress and a wonderful cook (pecan tarts, 10 lbs. of potatoes for 3 son-in-law’s, each who thought they were her favorite :-). She made sure we were raised in a Christ centered home, looked extra special on Sundays with our tight bobby pin curls and she took pride in her beautiful flower gardens. Some say she had the richest dirt in Alabama. The color pink will always bring to mind that Daddy wanted her to wear pink to meet him when he came home from the war, her red lipstick and of course the sparkle of her jewelry that made her known as Miss Hollywood at Kempton. Most important was her love for her family, especially her grands and great grands. She doted on hearing about their lives and she always kept each of us in line with her words…”you didn’t use good judgement”. She and Daddy always did their best to make sure our dreams came true. There is thankfulness for no more pain and also sorrow for what will be no more, but most of all, we are grateful she is wrapped in God’s golden embrace forevermore.
