Evelyn loved the Lord and was a faithful servant and member at Highlands Baptist Church in Huntsville for the past 60 years. Evelyn taught many kindergarten and Sunday school classes, sang in the Choir, active in the bus ministry with her husband, and was an active participant in every church activity. Evelyn was retired from Kroger, and loved her job in the bakery decorating cakes and giving cookies to the children that were shopping with their parents. Evelyn retired to take care of her mother until her death, and then shortly after became the sole caregiver of her husband until his death. Evelyn was always happy, loved working in the yard, cooking, travelling and spending time with friends and her family.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest C. McAlister, Sr. , her parents, George and Lucy Rivers, her brothers, George Rivers (Mary Ann), Charles Rivers and Clarence Rivers. Her sisters, Johnnie Motley , Thelma Woodward (Joe), and Vera Mae Willis Woodward (Bennett).
Evelyn is survived by her son, Ernest C. McAlister, Jr (Linda Grissim) and her daughter, Nan Black (Jerry), 2 grandchildren, Sara Black, and Andrew Black and one great granddaughter, Haley Black. Two sister in laws, JoAnn Rivers and Ophelia Rivers, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Evelyn will be held Saturday, November 5, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Valhalla Funeral Home, 698 Winchester Rd Ne, Huntsville, Alabama 35811, followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 AM, Tony Guthrie will officiate the service.
To honor Evelyn, and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christmas Charities Year Round toy program, McNair Middle School Band Program, or other Children’s charity.
