Gladys Marie Clanton, age 89, of Nashville, Tennessee passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2020. Gladys was born December 29, 1930 in Ellsworth, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband, Esly "Joe" Clanton; father, Dewey Seaton; mother, Gola Marie Seaton, sisters Dorothy Henry, Dollye Reynolds and Judy Parker and grandson Matthew Wilson.
Gladys graduated Valedictorian from Ellsworth Community High School. As a long-time active member of Highlands Baptist Church in Huntsville she taught pre-school children Bible stories and served as treasurer before moving to Nashville in 2008. She was a tax preparer with Clanton and Jones Accounting Services for many years and active in the Pilot Club of Huntsville spending years assisting in the Life Line program that provides help for the elderly and handicapped. She attended Brook Hollow Baptist church while in Nashville.
Gladys was most happy when she was working in the kitchen preparing meals for her family. Meals surrounding the celebration of Thanksgiving and Christmas were amazing. The grandchildren, who called her Mammaw, especially loved it when she fixed them green eggs and ham. Gladys was a talented seamstress. Making everything from the white shorts she made to meet her future husband, to a prom dress for her granddaughter, she was always ready for a sewing project. She had a smiling personality that attracted many friends and she will be missed.
She is survived by son Jeff (Pam) Clanton of Nashville; daughter Jody (Ron) Wilson of Oxford, MS and son, James "Jim" (Anne) Clanton of Dadeville, AL, 4 grandchildren, Jennifer (Linden) Lantz, Wesley Clanton, Emily (John Mark) Swafford and Trent Clanton, and 4 great grandchildren, Joseph, Lois and Lincoln Lantz, and Hayden Swafford and her sister Betty Belcher and numerous nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.
