Gladys Ruth Young

Gladys Ruth (Jones) Young, 84, of Huntsville, AL passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2023. Gladys was born in Bell Buckle, TN on July 2, 1938. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years: Leighton Eugene Young; her parents: Walter Mitchell Jones, Sr. and Clara Belle (Stewart) Jones; 2 sisters: Judy Shae Jones and Margaret Faye (Jones) Phillips King.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Rhonda Young Hogan (Tom), Gina Young Walling (Paul), Chet Young (Cathey), and Willie Sheffield; three siblings: Jo King, John Jones (Carol), and Jack Jones; 13 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

Gladys graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1956. She also graduated from Perry Business School in 1959 with a secretarial certification. She was a long time member of the Mastin Lake Road Church of Christ where she volunteered many years as a Bible class teacher and served alongside her husband in the bus ministry. Gladys was an excellent cook and seamstress. She loved to have fun and have her house full of family and friends.

A Visitation for Gladys will be held Monday, January 30, 2023 from 11:30am to 12:30pm at Valhalla Funeral Home, 698 Winchester Rd Ne, Huntsville, Alabama 35811, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 12:30pm. Services will be officiated by Alvin Alston and Scotty Sparks. Entombment will be in the Chapel of Peace Mausoleum at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
