Hilda Jean Moody

Hilda was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 53 years, Larry Moody; her sister, Faye Rigsby; and her great-grandchildren, Haven Drew May and Lincoln James Bennett.

She is survived by her three daughters, Kimberly (Steve) Wachter, Keri (Ben) May, and Kristi (J) Walton; her grandchildren, Brittany Wachter, Rebekah (Jordan) Bennett, Austin (Katie) May, Quinn Walton, and Bethany Walton; her great-grandchildren, Huxton May, Silas Bennett, and Colter May; and her siblings, Ronald Talley, Patricia Davidson, and Sherry Cox.

Hilda was a faithful member of Mastin Lake Road Church of Christ for 50 years. During that time, she taught children’s Bible classes for more than 40 years, sharing her love of God and her faith with generations of children. She later became a member of Madison Church of Christ, where she remained until her passing.

Hilda was a woman of many talents and interests. She loved painting and enjoyed expressing her creativity through her artwork. One of her most treasured accomplishments was painting portraits of her grandchildren, creating beautiful and meaningful pieces that will remain cherished reminders of her love for them.

Hilda and Larry also shared a love of camping and travel. They were proud members of the Alabama Wandering Stars camping group, where they made wonderful memories, enjoyed the outdoors, traveled to new places, and built lasting friendships together.

Hilda was a devoted fan of the Atlanta Braves and the Alabama Crimson Tide, and she enjoyed watching game shows. These familiar favorites were among the many things that brought a smile to her face and made her happiest when surrounded by the people she loved.

Above all, Hilda will be remembered for her steadfast faith, her deep love for her family, and her devotion to teaching and serving others. She had a gift for impacting the lives around her, whether through a Bible lesson, a painting created with love, the memories she made traveling and camping with Larry, or simply the time she spent with the people she cared for. Her legacy will live on through the many lives she touched, especially those of her family, who will carry her love and the lessons she taught them for generations to come.

Visitation will be held at Valhalla Funeral Home on Sunday, September 6, 2026 beginning at 1:00pm. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 3:00pm in Valhalla's Celebration Chapel. Mrs. Moody will be laid to rest next to her husband at Valhalla Memory Gardens immediately followings services.
