

Ida was born in Walnut Grove, Alabama, on September 21, 1922, to the late Thomas and Marcella Brooks.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Daniel Shipman; daughter, Carol Overcast; and son-in-law, Carl Kelley.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Anita Kelley, Charles Shipman, Daniel Shipman (Betty), Jerry Shipman, and Sandra Stilson (Michael); grandchildren, Chuck Stilson, Suzanne Stilson, Jimmy Overcast, Kyle Overcast, Bryan Kelley, Cheryl Kelley, Michelle Hammett, Daniel Shipman, and Teresa Baker; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends.
Ida was a loving and kind woman whose devout faith was an important part of her life. She was a longtime member of East Huntsville Church of Christ. She found joy in many creative pursuits, including painting ceramic china pieces, sewing, quilting, and making dolls. She was an avid reader and cherished the simple pleasures of life.
Ida leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love, kindness, and warm hugs. Her gentle spirit touched the lives of everyone who was fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family, friends, and all who were blessed to be a part of her amazing 103 years of life.
Visitation will be held at Valhalla Funeral Home, 698 Winchester Road NE, Huntsville, AL on Friday, August 21, 2026 from 5:00 pm until 8:00pm. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at 11:00 am in Valhalla's Celebration Chapel. Mrs. Shipman will be laid to rest next to her husband at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
