Mr. James Richard Holmes

JAMES RICHARD HOLMES June 10, 1925 – May 10, 2016 James R. Holmes, 90, passed away peacefully at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, TN on Tuesday with his wife by his side. Mr. Holmes was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse F. and Lillian Shaw Holmes and his 2 brothers, Clyde and Frank Holmes. Left to cherish his precious memory is his loving wife of 68 years, Peggy R. Holmes; 2 daughters, Jill Holmes Driscoll and Joyce Holmes Storey (Robert) both of Huntsville; 1 son, Rick Holmes (Cindy), of Warner Robins, GA; 7 grandchildren, Robby Storey (Vickye), Bryan Storey, James Storey, Michelle Holmes, Michael Holmes (Pam), Adam Driscoll, Sarah Ann Lanier (Joe); 3 great-grandchildren, Logan Storey, Hudson Storey and Kennedie Storey. Mr. Holmes was a proud veteran of the US Navy and upon completion of his service, earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Auburn University in 1950. After 30 years of service with NASA, he retired to enjoy golfing, picture framing and 21 years with the Huntsville Stars organization. “Jim” as most people knew him, was a member of Lathum United Methodist Church where he and Peggy attended faithfully. James Holmes was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him! You may visit with the family on Friday, May 13, 2016 at Valhalla Funeral Home from 12:00Noon until 2:00PM. There will be a funeral service conducted by Rev. Mike Ratliff commencing at 2:00PM in Valhalla’s Chapel. The interment with Military Honors, will immediately follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
