Janine Fimiani Roskowski

Janine Margaret Fimiani Roskowski, 72, of Brownsboro, Alabama, passed away August 11th 2026, leaving behind a life defined by faith, perseverance, generosity, and an extraordinary devotion to her family.

Janine spent approximately 42 years at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, where she worked as an artist and illustrator supporting Scientific and Technical Publication. Her creativity extended beyond her career; she loved to paint in her free time, especially with watercolors.

Janine’s work ethic was formed early. As a young woman, she bicycled between college and two jobs for years and continued working two jobs for much of her career. She never forgot the leaner days when even affording butter for noodles was something to think about. She remembered where she came from, and it shaped both her determination and her generosity.

Above all, Janine showed up for the people she loved.

Her Christian faith was central to her life. She volunteered at church, helped in the nursery, and constantly listened to praise and worship music. If someone needed help, Janine was there at the drop of a hat. That compassion extended to animals as well; an avid pet lover and dog rescuer, she opened her heart and home to animals in need.

Janine was incredibly proud of her only daughter, Alena, and her son-in-love, Austen. She encouraged them, supported them, prayed for them, spoke proudly of them, and occasionally pestered them—all out of love. Her phone was filled with prayers, inspirational messages, and words of encouragement she saved and sent whenever something reminded her of the people she loved.

She was equally intentional in the smallest gestures. Janine could spend hours in the card aisle searching for exactly the right card for exactly the right person. She wanted people to know they were thought of and loved.

Her beloved grandsons, Alec and Ander, were among her greatest joys. Rarely did two weeks pass without her seeing them. She was there for soccer, basketball, and flag football games, holidays, milestones, and ordinary days. She also created one of the family’s favorite traditions—Christmas Eve at Waffle House—a simple tradition that will forever carry her memory.

Janine remained devoted to her family through difficult seasons as well, including standing beside and caring for her husband through cancer.

She also found joy in life’s simple things: orange black pekoe tea prepared the “French” way, ramen, Dollar General, McDonald’s unsweet tea, painting, her dogs, and time with the people she loved.

Janine is survived by her daughter Alena, her son-in-love, Austen, her beloved grandsons, Alec and Ander Howell, her brother Bob Fimiani, and sisters Lee Hanson, Sara Fimiani, Daphne Fimiani and Maya Fimiani. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Roskowski.

There are many ways to measure a life, but Janine’s may be best measured by the people who knew they could count on her: in games spent cheering from the sidelines, dogs given another chance, cards chosen with extraordinary care, prayers and encouraging messages sent, and a family who never had to wonder whether they were deeply loved.

Janine spent a lifetime showing up for those she loved. Her family will continue to find pieces of her in their faith, traditions, strength, compassion, and love for one another.

She showed up, again and again. And that is a beautiful legacy to leave behind.

Visitation will be held at Valhalla Funeral Home (Huntsville), 698 Winchester Road NE, Huntsville, AL 35811 on August 16, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, followed by a Funeral Service at the same location on August 16, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
