Jean Holman Allen, 92, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on October 20, 2024. She was born in 1932 to Mary and Robert Lee Holman in Madison County, AL. Jean worked throughout her adult years, including Goodyear Mills, Southside Baptist Church, and Huntsville City Schools.
At an early age, Jean professed her faith in Jesus Christ. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church, where she was blessed with love, friends, and the fellowship of many. She ministered to others, sharing her gifts of hospitality and understanding with a welcoming, warm smile. It was there that she met and fell in love with her husband, Jim. Together, they learned to play the ukulele with the newly formed Golden Reflections Ukulele Choir. Her enthusiasm and big blue eyes shone from the stage as they ministered their hearts out with choruses and old hymns.
She was fiercely devoted to her children in all phases of our lives. Mom encouraged us, disciplined us, supported our endeavors, gave us a safe place to land when things didn't go so well, and helped us manage "adult-ing" by working alongside us.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, James Junior Allen; sisters Allice Katherine Holman, Elah St. Clair, and Rachael Tanley, brother, Paul Holman; and grandson, Benjamin Lowhorne. She is survived by her children, Thomas A. Jones of Huntsville, Judy Webster Powers (John) of Andalusia, and Sue Jones Harrison (Ken) of Huntsville; grandchildren Misty Haskins, Dustin Webster, Christian Webster, Scott Lowhorne, Mackenzie Fontaine, and Laura Waye, as well as five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation for Jean will be held Friday, October 25, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Valhalla Funeral Home, 698 Winchester Rd Ne, Huntsville, Alabama 35811. Following the visitation will be the celebration of life service at 1:00 PM at Valhalla Funeral Home Chapel, 698 Winchester Rd Ne, Huntsville, Alabama 35811. Jean will be laid to rest in Cameron Cemetery, Gurley, AL.
