

James Cordell Countess, 76, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, June 7, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, S. S. and Louise Towns Countess; 4 brothers; and 2 sisters. Left to cherish his special memory is his loving wife of close to 45 years, Maretta Thompson Countess; his daughter, Karen C. Coleman and her husband Kevin of Huntsville; his son, Jon James Countess and his wife Kia of Sumter, SC; 2 grandchildren, Jon Rix Countess and Robert Joel Countess; and a host of nieces and nephews. “Jim”, as most people knew him, was a native of Huntsville having lived here his whole life. He was a proud U. S. Air Force veteran and was stationed in California with the USAF Strategic Air Command. After returning from the service, Jim went to work for SCI where he was employed as an electronic technician for 40 years. He loved gardening and yard work and always had one of the best kept yards in the neighborhood. Jim was a devout Christian man who loved his Lord and his church family and was a longtime faithful member of Flint River Baptist Church. Jim Countess was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him! You may visit with the family at Valhalla Funeral Home on Thursday, June 11, 2015 from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM. There will be a funeral service conducted by Dr. Steve Bell commencing at 2:00 PM in Valhalla’s chapel. The interment will immediately follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
