John Charles Geiger, 89, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on February 16, 2024. He was born on October 30, 1934, in Jacksonville, Florida. Son of the late Lawton Felix Geiger and Irene McPherson, he was a man of integrity and dedication. John was a devoted husband of 67 years to Eva Witt Geiger. They were a beautiful love story, meeting in Jr High and were together until Eva passed in August, 2023. John is now reunited with the love of his life. He was also a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.
John's formative years were spent at Andrew Jackson High School, and he further honed his knowledge at the University of Florida. His career was a testament to his commitment and ingenuity, beginning in 1957 with the Martin Merrietta Company in Orlando, FL. He then moved to Huntsville in 1966 taking a job with Teledyne Brown Engineering. This marked a significant contribution to the Space Program, working on the Saturn V engines, Skylab, the Space Shuttle's External Tank, and Space Shuttle payloads. He was the Director of Engineering on the TBE Payload Mission Integration. His work left an indelible mark on the aerospace industry.
John was a man of many talents and interests. He loved working with his hands, whether it was tending to his garden, playing tennis, or building structures. His passion for helping others extended to mission trips, where he lent his skills to repair churches and buildings. John was also actively involved in his community, volunteering with Meals on Wheels for many years.
A faithful member of First Baptist Church in Huntsville, Alabama, John found solace and community in his place of worship. He also enjoyed singing in the choir and engaging in various church activities.
John's legacy lives on through his family. He is survived by his devoted children Wade Geiger (Cheryl Geiger), Lisa Moon, and Lynn Moore (Mark Moore); his grandchildren John Moon (Lindsy Moon), Jay Moon (Cara Moon), Chase Moore, Bailey Geiger, Will Geiger, and Mary Grace Geiger; and 5 great grandchildren. John is also survived by his brother, Claude Geiger (Elaine Geiger).
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eva Witt Geiger, and by his grandson, Jackson Moore, as well as his parents and siblings, Lawton Delany Geiger, Quinten Geiger, Fern Forester, Rosalee Funkhouser, and Claudia Burnham.
Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church on Thursday, February 22, 2024, from 12:30 - 1:30 in the Chapel. A private graveside service for the family will follow at Valhalla Funeral Home.
