John Robert Keller, 79, of Huntsville, AL passed away on Monday, September 22, 2025. Mr. Keller was born on September 23, 1945 in Maryville, TN. He is preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Janet Taylor Keller; parents, John and Myrtle Keller; brothers, Ervil, Dewey, and Fred Keller; and sisters, Blanche Bain and Reva Whitehead.
Left to cherish his memory are his sister Merle Tipton of Maryville; son Nathan Keller (Wendy Sweatt) and their children, Nora, Andrew, Silas, and Samuel of Huntsville; daughter Megan Keller Brown (Jeremiah) and their children, Ambrose, Felix, Vera, and Clement of Huntsville; and many nieces, nephews, and long-time friends.
Mr. Keller served in the US Navy from 1968 to 1971 before graduating from the University of Tennessee in 1974 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked at a number of different companies throughout his lengthy career, among which are Texas Instruments, Siecor, EG&G Ortec, and Boeing. He served as a guitarist on the praise team at Winchester Road Baptist Church for many years and after his retirement from Boeing, gigged all around the greater Huntsville area with the Harmony Pickers and the Huntsville Traditional Music Association. When he was not busy playing guitar or enjoying lunch with his closest friends in the ROMEO Club (Retired Old Men Eating Out), Mr. Keller quietly built his reputation as a pool shark, besting many an unsuspecting opponent on the billiards table. He loved taking care of his cats, watching birds in the back yard, and feeding the family of raccoons that lived on his property.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 27th, 2025 at 12:00pm at Valhalla Funeral Home. A graveside service, officiated by Rev. Brian McLain, will follow at 1:00pm at Valhalla Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Forgotten Felines (https://www.ffhsv.org). Please leave fond memories and condolences for the Keller family at www.valhallafunerals.com.
