

Born on September 26, 1942, in Gretna, Virginia, Juel was a vibrant woman whose presence was as bold as her personality. She was the devoted wife of James Holmes, the love of her life, with whom she shared 43 wonderful years of marriage.
A faithful member of Progressive Union Missionary Baptist Church, Juel found joy in gospel music and cherished her church community. Known for her sass, wit, and unmatched ability to keep everyone in line, Juel was a woman who spoke her mind and loved with her whole heart.
Juel had a flair for fashion and especially enjoyed shopping for clothes—QVC was her favorite. She also loved traveling with her family, solving crossword puzzles, and never missed her soap operas. Her family brought her the greatest joy, and she treasured every moment spent with them.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wade and Rose. She is survived by her loving husband James Holmes; her sisters, Sally (Nate) Saunders and Hilda Taylor; her sons Darryl (Carol) Wilson, Frank Wilson, and Mark (Gaylene) Wilson; granddaughters Dara and Salihah; grandsons Nathan and Danny; and a host of great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her dear friend and caregiver, Sandra Love, whose presence brought comfort and companionship.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Valhalla Funeral Home. A celebration of Juel’s life will take place on Monday, May 5, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Progressive Union Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
Juel Holmes lived a life full of laughter, love, and loyalty. Her legacy will live on through the many lives she touched.
