Lois Frances McMillan, 92, went to be with the Lord on August 15, 2017. One of her father’s favorite expressions was, “The last of August was the first of Lois”, as she was born into the world in Kaukauna, WI. A graduate of Kaukauna High School and the Lawrence College Conservatory of Music, she met and married the love of her life, Vernon McMillan in 1952. Although they first met on a blind date, they really met through a divine appointment. They truly loved and cherished every moment together. They considered eating together a “date” and enjoyed “movie night” at home each Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Her zest for life was inspirational. As a third- and fifth-grade teacher at Chaffee Elementary School for over sixteen years, Lois influenced generations of youth to be caring, contributing citizens reaching their full potential. Since retirement, she enjoyed fellowshipping with Willowbrook Garden Club members, women educators in the Gamma Pi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, and volunteer teaching with Vernon at the Adult Learning Center. Lois enjoyed playing bridge, Spades, golf, and occasional concerts. She was preceded by her father, Theodore, her mother, Paula, and older sisters Corinne and Rosemary. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Vernon McMillan; children, Kathy Cole (Bob), Susan Weaver (Paul), Kenneth McMillan (Libba); and grandchildren Brian Cole, Meredith Brock (Bryan), and Madeline Nowak (Krystian). Visitation will be held Friday, August 18, 2017 at 10:00 A.M., followed immediately by a Mass of Celebration at 11:00 A.M. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Lois’ memory be made to Disabled American Veterans, Wounded Warrior Project, or a charity of your choice.
