Lynn R Hagen, age 81, died at home, after a 5-year battle with Colon Cancer. Lynn is survived by his wife, Karin; son, Norman (Eddie) Hagen and wife Sonya; daughter, Susan Hagen; grandson, Jamal Edwards; and stepson, J.R. Collins.
He grew us in Arlington and Falls Church, Virginia the only son of Norman E. and Josephine Daisher Hagen (deceased). He was active in high school as a thespian and won awards as Virginia state best actor and poetry reader. After Lynn graduated from McLean High School he tied college but after one year, he decided to fulfill his obligation for serving in the armed service. He signed up with the US Army to be an Electric Instrument Repairman, and later as a Calibration Specialist. He served for 23 years, in Europe, Far East, and in the United States. Lynn is a veteran of the Vietnam War. After the military, Lynn worked for Boeing as a microwave Technician until his second retirement.
When his son wished to join Scouting, Lynn Volunteered as a Scout Leader and never stopped. His service is listed as 56 years as Cub Scout, Boy Scout and volunteer Scout Leader. He served in the US and Germany, as Scoutmaster, Woodbadge Scoutmaster, Kaskanampo OA Lodge Adviser, and many other volunteer positions including Talakto (formerly Chickasaw) District Committee and greater Alabama Council committee. Lynn received various recognitions including the District Award of Merit, Tennessee Valley Scouter, Silver Beaver, Vigil Honor, Order of the Arrow Founders Award, James E West Fellowship, 2010 Eagle Class Honoree and most recently the 2020 Heart of the Eagle Award. However, his personal Greatest Achievement was the fact that is helped over 300 young men obtain the rank of Eagle by setting on Boards of Review and Eagle Project approvals.
A visitation for Lynn will be held Saturday, April 24, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Valhalla Funeral Home. A graveside service with military honors will occur Sunday, April 25, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Burningtree Memorial Gardens, 4919 Marsha Ave, Decatur, AL 35603.
