Max L. Howard peacefully moved into eternal rest on July 8th, 2020. Max was born on February 25, 1930 to David and Verna Mae Howard in Toney, Alabama. Max graduated from Hazel Green High School in 1949. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War from 1951 to 1955. In 1993 he retired from Redstone Arsenal after 41 years as a civilian servant.
Max was an avid recreational farmer who especially loved tending his cows and growing a large garden. He enjoyed a good game of checkers or cards as well maintaining bluebird houses and was a true lover of the land, always enjoying a good ride through the countryside. Max was known for his sense of humor, snicker and mischievous smile. He was a devoted family man who was much beloved by his large extended family.
Max was preceded in death by his parents David and Verna Mae Howard, his sisters Everdell Howard and Clintell Hyslip. Max is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years Mary Frances, his sons Bruce (June) and Dennis (Kim), grandchildren John, Samantha, Mary and Olivia, sister Libby Howard (Roy Gene), brothers James Howard (Sylvia) and Edsel Howard (Carolyn) and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Due to Covid-19, a private graveside service will be held in the near future. Arrangements to be coordinated by Valhalla Funeral Home.
The family wishes to thank the following caregivers for their love and care they provided to Max in his final years: Tanya Tverberg, Sherry Shepard, Joseph O’Kelly, Gwen Jones and Tuchone Coates. A special thanks to the Bobo Volunteer Fire Department for their quick and professional care for dad on numerous occasions. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Bobo Volunteer Fire Department in his memory.
