Mildred was a devoted mom, maw maw, and wife. Maw maw’s greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was everyone’s biggest cheerleader and always showed up. Her house was a safe place and a sanctuary. You came as you were and she loved you for it. You could talk about what you had going on, world events, sit and watch tv with her, or just lay on the couch and rest. She was whatever you needed whenever you needed it. If you were there in the middle of the day during the week you were watching every soap opera. If you were there around dinner you were watching Survivor or Big Brother or Blue Bloods. As much as she loved Tom Selleck and Blue Bloods, nothing compared to Golden Girls. She was able to watch all her grandkids grow up, get married, have babies, and make it to 30. Every “I just hope I make it to see” event she set she saw. Not everyone gets this much time with their mom or maw maw and for that we are extremely grateful. The younger babies of our family may not remember you but they will know you. Your traditions, your recipes, and your legacy will live on. Thank you for being a friend. And we will always save you a seat. Rest now.
She leaves behind her two daughters, Wendy Adams (Bob Adams) and Tammy Hickman (Bill Hickman), three granddaughters, Kristen Bourne (Michael Bourne), Sarah Atchley (Matthew Atchley) and Mackenzie Hickman, three grandsons, Clay Edwards (Nikki Carboni), Alan Fann (Ashley Fann) and Matthew Hickman, two sisters, Mary and Gladys, one brother, Larry, numerous nieces and nephews, eight great-grandkids and her beloved dog Rocky.
Proceeding her in death was her husband of 60 years, Charles Thompson, mother Zell and father Floyd Anderson, three sisters, Lois, Glenda, and Dorothy, one brother Buster, and one great-granddaughter Harper Gracie-Lee Smith.
Visitation will be held Thursday, February 5th from 10:00-11:00 am at Valhalla on Winchester Rd., Huntsville, AL, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 am. She will be laid to rest at Valhalla following services with Brother Jason Caldwell of Park City Baptist Church officiating.
