

Monte Vann Davis, Sr., a lifelong resident of New Market, Alabama, was born March 25, 1937 and passed May 3, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Marvin and Geneva Vandiver Davis, and brother George Robert Davis.
Monte graduated from New Market High School in 1955 and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Alabama Polytechnic Institute in Agriculture Science. Upon completion of college, Monte joined the United States Army in December 1959 with completion of service in 1962. After an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army, he continued serving his country in the Alabama National Guard.
Monte’s passion was cultivating and producing row crops along with cattle on the land he was raised on, R.M. Davis & Son Farms. An active member and participant of Future Farmers of America, he received numerous accolades for leadership in production agriculture and conservation methods to advance technologies he would soon use in his operation. An engaged leader and Trustee at New Market School, board member of the Madison County Cattlemen's Association, board member of Madison County Alabama Farm Bureau, now known as Alabama Farmers Federation, board member and President of Madison County Farmers Cooperative, board member and District Director with Production Credit Association, First South Farm Credit, board member and President New Market Gin to transition to Cotton Growers Cooperative.
Monte and Carolyn Jo, his loving wife of 65 years, was selected as Farmers Home Administration District Farm Family of the Year in 1977, in January 2020 Davis Farms received the Alabama Century & Heritage Award and Alabama Bicentennial Farm Award from Alabama Department of Agriculture & Industries. A fourth-generation farmer with 55 years of caring, nurturing, and producing the land he cherished, Monte produced his last crop in 2016 when he retired from active agriculture production.
Davis Farms remains an active row crop and cattle operation today existing in its fifth-generation. Monte’s first passion was his love for God and living a Christ driven life, supporting and growing his childhood church, providing time and service to the Madison County Baptist Association Board and childhood church, New Market Baptist Church, as a deacon and treasurer.
Monte is survived by his wife, Carolyn Jo, three sons, Monte Jr.(Cindy), Greg (Becky), Jim, sister in law Charlotte Davis. The family is blessed with ten grandchildren: Corbin, Andrew (Kayla), Kaylee (Adam) Davis, Kyle, Colton, Lauren, Logan, Ryan, Patrick (Kaci) Anderson, and Heather James. They also have five great grandchildren: Callie, Brody and Will Davis, Morgan Anderson, and Jackson James.
Visitation for Monte will be on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 from 5:00-8:00 pm at Valhalla Funeral Home, 698 Winchester Rd NE, Huntsville, Alabama 35811. Funeral service to be Thursday, May 8, 2025 10:00 am in the Valhalla Celebration Chapel.
