Myron "Sonny" Richard Wilson

October 4, 1935 – September 11, 2025

Myron R. “Sonny” Wilson, lovingly known as “Poppa,” passed away at his home in Huntsville, Alabama, on September 11, 2025, at the age of 89. Sonny was born on October 4, 1935, in Birmingham, Alabama, to the late Myron and Mary Wilson. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Margaret and Mary.

He is survived by his devoted wife and high school sweetheart, Drusilla, with whom he shared a lifetime of love. He also leaves behind his daughter, Roxanne (David) and son, Todd (Ursula), and; five grandsons, Jason (Jessica), Matthew (Erin), Chris, Justin (Casey), and Joshua (Jordan); and ten great-grandchildren, all of whom were the joy of his life.

Sonny graduated from Birmingham Southern College and served honorably as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division. A licensed pilot, he also gave many years of service to the community, including as Chairman of the Northeast Alabama State Fair with the Jaycees.

After moving to Huntsville, he worked in management with Moore Handley before founding Wilson Garage Door Company in 1968, a business that has faithfully served North Alabama for more than five decades.

He was an avid University of Alabama football fan and enjoyed deep sea fishing, scuba diving, deer hunting, vanilla ice cream, and, above all, time with his family. Sonny was known for his generosity, his love for people, and his heart for community. He was also a founding and active member of Refuge Church, where his faith shaped his life and legacy.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 17 at 1:00 PM at Valhalla Funeral Home, 698 Winchester Rd NE, Huntsville, AL 35811. Services will be held immediately following at 2:00 PM in the Valhalla Funeral Home Celebration Chapel with Pastor Jason Parks officiating. A private family burial will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Sarah Gayle Gibbs Memorial Foundation.
