Richard Eugene Flaugher

29 December 1934 - 30 April 2026

Richard was born in Walkerton, Indiana to Emery and Dorothy (McDaniel) Flaugher.

As a child Richard worked on the family farm with his two older brothers.

He graduated from Walkerton High School.

On August 25th, 1955, he married Mary Gessner. Together they had five children.

As an adult Richard work and retired from Bendix as a Journeyman. He was also an exceptional carpenter. He could fix or build anything.

In 2008, Richard and his wife moved to Huntsville AL to be closer to family.

He loved living near several of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary, his parents Emery and Dorothy, his brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Alice, Bob and Cheryl, and sister-in-law Norma Gessner.

He is survived by his brother-in-law Monte (Mary) Gessner of Howard’s Grove, WI; his 5 children, Rick (Gena) Flaugher of Tallahassee FL, Karen Bottorff of Huntsville AL, David (Janice) Flaugher of Tucson AZ, Dianne (Jim) Stewart of Huntsville AL, John (Amy) Flaugher of Huntsville AL; his 8 grandkids, Jessica Goins of Huntsville, AL, Dana (Matthew) Hodges of Huntsville, AL, Jorge Stewart of Huntsville, AL, Brooke (Chris) Roberts Panama City Beach FL, Erik (Lauren) Flaugher of Cape May NJ, Ashley (Jimmy) McKeever of Lakeville IN, Jacob Flaugher of Huntsville, AL, Joshua Flaugher of Huntsville, AL; his 12 great grandkids, Zoe, Kristopher, Gabriel, David, Alex, Joseph, Auggie, Luke, Riley, Rhett, Caden, and Liam.

A service will be held for both Richard and Mary on May 16th, 2026, at 2:00 pm at Calvary Baptist Church, 126 Douglas Rd NW, Huntsville AL, 35806.
