

Retired Command Master Chief Richard Elmer Hicks, a resident of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on November 5, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on February 26, 1942, Richard was known for being brave, compassionate, devoted, and honest.
Richard had a distinguished career in the United States Navy, retiring after 25 years of service as a Command Master Chief. His dedication to his country and his exemplary service are remembered with great respect.
He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Evelyn Hicks, four brothers, Bob, Harry, Kenny, and Gary, and his granddaughter, Hope Noel. Richard leaves behind his beloved wife of 51 years, Peggy Hicks. He is survived by his four children: Lori Stinnett (Bobby), Richard Bennett, Evelyn Maddox, and Patricia White (Rick). Richard was also a cherished grandfather to eight grandchildren: Jessica, Ashley S., Adam, Ashley D., Heaven, Joshua, Christopher, and Carson, and a great-grandfather to ten great-grandchildren.
In his personal life, Richard loved to read, cook, and travel. He and Peggy enjoyed traveling with a fifth-wheel RV group for 13 years, creating many cherished memories together. Above all things he loved, his family was the most important thing to him.
A visitation will be held at Valhalla Funeral Home in Huntsville, Alabama, on November 9, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. This will be followed by a Celebration of Life at the same venue starting at 2:00 pm. Richard's life and legacy will be honored and remembered by all who knew him.
