Robert Elwin "Bob" Goens, 72, of Huntsville, Alabama, entered the presence of his Lord and Savior on Friday, June 5, 2026. Born on December 27, 1953, in Huntsville, Bob lived a life marked by steadfast faith, quiet perseverance, deep love for his family, and genuine concern for others.
Bob was the beloved husband of Kerry Goens, whom he married August 15, 2014. Together they shared many adventures, traveling to places such as Virginia, Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Alaska while enjoying God's creation and making cherished memories.
He worked at as Scheduler/Planner with Cadillac GAGE Co., and later at ADTRAN.
Faith was the foundation of Bob's life. He was a faithful member of Southeast Church of the Nazarene, where he served as Missions President, and had been active in several congregations throughout his life. His faith was evident not only in worship but in the way he served others and cared for those around him.
Bob lived courageously with Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease. Even as the disease progressed, he remained remarkably independent and determined, inspiring those around him through his perseverance. One of his favorite memories was attending the Iron Bowl in Tuscaloosa with his son—a lifelong dream for them both. Even in the pouring rain after the game, Bob insisted on using his walker rather than a wheelchair, reflecting the determination that defined his life.
He found great joy in simple things. Christmas was his favorite season, and he delighted in giving family members ornaments each year so they could build traditions of their own. He was also a devoted University of Alabama fan who rarely missed a game. Saturdays in the fall often meant conversations with his son about every touchdown, turnover, and victory. He also loved grilling and spending time with his family, creating memories that will be treasured for years to come.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Kerry Goens; his son, Rev. Matthew Anderson and wife Pamela, and their children, Justus, Olyvia, Silas, and Thaddaeus; stepdaughter Michelle Davy and husband Sean, and their children, Piper, Damon, Zebasthian, and Ny'Layla; stepson Nathaniel Fitts and wife Jenny, and their daughter, Makenzie Tidwell and husband Roger; stepdaughter Ashley Lane and husband Brent, and their children, Kylie and Kenyan; stepdaughter Kristina Baswell and husband Wayne, and their children, John, Dan, Michael, and Catie; stepson Jacob Fitts and his fiancée, Kisha Moss; his brother, Steve Goens and wife Kaye; sister-in-law Sharon Goens; nieces Kristina Holmes and husband Jeff, and Karen Griffin and husband John; nephew Lance Hyche; along with many extended family members, dear friends, and his church family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Betty Gray Goens and William Floyd Goens, Jr., and his brother, Mike Goens.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Southeast Church of the Nazarene, 2275 Cecil Ashburn Drive SE, Huntsville, Alabama. A celebration of Bob's life will immediately follow, officiated by Rev. Byron Brown.

Bob will be remembered for his genuine faith, unwavering love for his family, and the quiet determination with which he lived each day. His legacy of perseverance, kindness, and hope will continue to inspire all who knew and loved him.
