Robert Crayton Lee, known as Bobby, passed away peacefully at his home in Huntsville, Alabama, on September 18, 2025, at the age of 93. He was born on July 9, 1932, in Gadsden, Alabama, and grew up in Leesburg, Alabama. Bobby graduated from Cherokee County High School in 1950 before attending the University of Alabama, where he earned his degree in 1954.
After college, Bobby proudly served as an officer in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956 at Ft. Bliss, Texas, before continuing in the Army Reserve, where he retired in 1976 with the rank of lieutenant colonel. Following his active duty service, Bobby returned to Alabama and began a long and successful career at the U.S. Army Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville. Over the course of 33 years, he made significant contributions to the Lance and Tactical Missile Systems programs, which marked the culmination of his distinguished civil service career.
Bobby was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his four children: Dorma Hutcheson (Terry), Phyllis Lee, Beth Lee-Rausch (Russ), and Robert Lee II (Deidra). He is also survived by his stepchildren: Douglas Williams (Dana) and Julie Williams. Bobby’s legacy lives on through his grandchildren: Crayton Miller, Phillip Miller, Brennan Rausch Bradshaw (Luke), Ben Rausch, Kathrine Lee, Joshua Lee, Janet Carver (Graham), Danae Qualls (Blake), Drew Williams (Amy), Ben Loebler, and Robbie Holcombe, along with five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wives: Mary Meeks Lee (1999) and Lois Ann Moore Lee (2020).
A private funeral service will be held for the family.
