Robert Clinton Nye, 75 of Huntsville, Alabama passed away Thursday, December 17, 2015.
Mr. Nye is preceded in death by his wife Rita Kay Nye
Mr. Nye is survived by his daughter, Gina (James) Kortman of Elkmont, AL., sister, Betty (Ronald) Harshe of Dayton, Ohio, three grandchildren, Victoria Lee, Kristiana Kortman, Tyden Kortman.
He served more than 46 years of federal service in support of both military Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) operations in the United States Army, and as a civilian U.S. Army Instructor and Instructor Supervisor at the Hazardous Devices School (HDS) Redstone Arsenal, AL.
His service with the US Army was from 1958 to 1978, achieving rank of Sergeant First Class. He was a decorated combat veteran of Vietnam and was awarded a Soldiers Medal for saving the life of two injured soldiers. He was also injured during that same operation. He was also awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. His service with the Hazardous Devices School as a civilian instructor was from 1982 to 2006. He was currently employed by Med Eng as a Technical Training Representative.
He is a member of the IABTI, (International Associations of Bomb Technicians and Investigators) for over 20 years. He was the recipient of the IABTI 2004 Ron Purvis Memorial Award.
He was a member of St. Paul Methodist Church.
He loved NASCAR, time spent on his Harley-Davidson, spending time with
friends and family, and spoiling his best four legged pal Bogie.
You may visit with the family on Monday, December 21, 2015 from 5:00 pm till 8:00 pm at Valhalla Funeral Home, with funeral services on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at 2:00 pm in Valhalla Funeral Home Chapel with Dorothy Ann Webster officiating. Entombment will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
