Stana Jean Crosley Hicks

May 31, 1951March 27, 2021

Stana Jean Crosley Hicks, age 69 of Hazel Green, Alabama passed away on Saturday, March 27th, 2021. Stana was born May 31, 1951 in Anderson, Indiana to Lee Ellen Southard and Sonny Crosley.

Stana is survived by her husband of 52 years, William "Bill" Earl Hicks. Her sons and daughters in law; Billy and Caroline Hicks, Danny and Carissa Hicks. Her Grandchildren, McKenzie, Blake, Nathaniel, and Cameron Hicks. Her Brothers and Sisters, Jennifer DeLeary (daughters Alisha and Zoie), Tom (Beth and daughter Cammie) Southard.

Stana was preceded in death by her father Sonny Crosley, her mother Lee Ellen Southard, her sisters Linda Southard and Emily Frazier (surviving children Christopher and Brandy).

We are sorry if you did not know her. If you didn't know her, you never got to eat her lasagna, you never received a call offering to help with whatever it is you were working on, or received one of her elaborately wrapped birthday or Christmas gifts. There are a bevy of young and not so young people out there that think that "Nana" was related to them. They were not, she just adopted them and made them feel like family. It is so hard to write about the life of Stana Hicks because if you knew her, you know how impossible it is to explain how loving and giving she was and if you didn't have the honor of knowing her, you will never understand because there are not a lot of people like her in the world to compare her to. She worked hard her whole life, one and two jobs at a time. She loved her job at Huntsville Hospital and made life long friends that her best friend Beverly says are called the "cronies". She worked at Huntsville Hospital 30 years and so many people have reached out to say that she was so sweet and kind. She loved going to EVERY ball game that her grandchildren played in, even when they didn't get to play. She was there with her team colors cheering from the sideline. She was such a social person and became close friends with her daughters in law and their families. There was not a cookout at Billy and Vicki's that she was not invited to. A holiday dinner at Aunt Dale's that she was not welcome at or a birthday party at Barcia's that she would not be a part of. That is not the norm for every family, but Stana was special. Stana became part of everyone's family. She was never "just an in-law" to Helen and her brothers and sisters: James, Dottie, Teresa, Brenda, Tom, Curtis, Wanda, Vickie, James and Judy. She had a special relationship with Curtis and Wanda as well as Judy and James Sylvester. They truly stepped in during a time of need and their love and support has never been forgotten. One of her favorite annual events over the years was the Davis Family reunion at the Guntersville Dam. She loved her Hicks family so much. They treated her like a true sister and she loved them the same and all the nieces and nephews were such a joy to her through the years.

A visitation for Stana will be held Wednesday, March 31, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Valhalla Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will occur Thursday, April 1st, 2021 at 11:00 AM, burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens.

Casket bearers will be Blake Hicks, Nathaniel Hicks, Billy Beegle, Matt Hicks, Renny Rapoza, and Evan Jones.
