He will be buried at Valhalla Memorial Gardens on Sunday, November 8, 2026 at 2pm.
He graduated from the University of Alabama with his career starting with Boeing and the Space Program. He received his welcome to the army in the mailbox after graduation, so his career was put on hold. He was assigned to Cam Rahn Bay, Vietnam in Personnel until 1969.
He went back to New Orleans to work with Boeing, but soon the Space Program was shutting down. He returned to Huntsville and was hired with the Department of Mental Health of Alabama and became Asst. Director of Personnel at Bryce Hospital - from there to Personnel Director of North Alabama Mental Health facility in Decatur. He helped close it down and returned to Tuscaloosa as Director of Partlow State School. He retired in 2006.
Steve is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sondra McAdams Spier; his Son, Shawn Kevin (Heather); his daughter, Stephanie Nicole (Adam); Grandchildren, Steven Jack and Sophie Kate; Brothers, Wayne (Patsy), Mike (Linda, Neil (Mary) or Troy, Alabama and lots of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Marjorie and sisters Linda Rae and Sandra and brothers, Richard and Bruce.
He is loved by all and will be missed.
