It is with profound sadness and immense love that we announce the passing of Tammie Michelle Edwards, who left this world peacefully on January 12, 2025, surrounded by her family. Born on July 1, 1967, Tammie’s vibrant spirit, sense of humor, fiery determination and unwavering love touched the lives of everyone who knew her.
A devoted mother, Tammie is survived by her cherished children, Candace Michelle Smart and Michael Smart, who were the light of her life. She was a proud and loving grandmother to her four grandchildren: Destinee Edwards, Alexis Smart, Aubrey Smart, and Peyton Smart, whose laughter and joy she treasured deeply. Her everything was her kids and her grandbabies—her pride in them knew no bounds. They were her babies, no matter their age, and even spending every moment with them wasn’t enough.
Tammie’s life was enriched by her close bond with her family. She shared a unique and precious relationship with her father, Douglas Ray Edwards, whom she considered her role model and idol. Her heart was full of gratitude for her bonus mom, Shanna Gaylor Edwards, whose care and kindness brought so much comfort. Tammie is also survived by her three siblings, Sherry Edwards Knighten (Doyle), Douglas Edwards II (Cassie), and Susan Edwards Arnold (Chris), who held a special place in her heart. She was preceded in death by her son, Coty Edwards, and her mother, Margaret Edwards.
Tammie was truly one of a kind and had a spark like no other. She lived up to her July birthday as a true firecracker – bold, unrelenting, and full of life. Her feisty personality ensured that no one was left questioning her opinions or her immense love for those she cared about. She could make you laugh until you cried and stand toe-to-toe with anyone who crossed her loved ones. Fiercely protective, Tammie was the ultimate defender of her family and her principles.
Family to Tammie, was far more than blood. She took people in, nurtured them, and made them part of her world with her unmatched generosity, and incredible heart. Her love extended beyond her immediate family, weaving together a network of countless friends and loved ones, all of whom she kept track of with an amazing memory and an unparalleled ability to make connections. This was no small feat considering the size of the Edwards and Thomas families.
If someone was in need, Tammie would provide or find a way to help, even if it meant going without herself. She welcomed people into her home and heart, demonstrating her deep compassion and generosity time and again from the time she was little extending throughout her life. However, make no mistake – while her kindness knew no bounds, her fiery side ensured that anyone who hurt her family would face the full force of her wrath.
Known for her boundless generosity, warm smile, and loving nature, Tammie brought light and laughter into every room she entered. She had a remarkable ability to make others feel valued and cared for, always ready with a listening ear or a helping hand. Her legacy is one of love, family, and the countless beautiful memories she created with those fortunate enough to know her.
As we say goodbye, we take comfort in the memories of her laughter, her unyielding love, her pride in her children and grandkids, and the way she lit up our lives. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
