Theo Weir, a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, fraternity brother and friend was the the first child of Bettie Weir. He was born on March 23, 1935 in Grenada, Mississippi. A man of great faith, Theo accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Bell Flower Missionary Baptist Church in Granada, Mississippi. Later in life, after settling in Huntsville, Alabama he and his family joined Union Hill Primitive Baptist Church.
Theo began his college career at Alcorn A&M College where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology and Mathematics. He earned his Master of Science degree from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. After teaching assignments at Alabama A&M University, he continued his higher education pursuits by attending The Ohio State University, where he taught for two years and ultimately earned his PhD in Industrial Arts and Technology. Dr. Weir was blessed with a vast teaching and administrative career which included: Mathematics Instructor at Smith County Training School in in Taylorville, Mississippi; Instructor of Industrial Arts and Building Construction at Mississippi Valley State College in Itta Bena, Mississippi; Assistant Professor of Industrial Arts and Civil Engineering Technology at Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, Alabama; Teaching Associate in Industrial Technology Education at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio; Associate Professor and Chairman of Industrial Education and Technology at Alabama A&M University; and Dean of Instruction at J. F. Drake State Technical College in Huntsville, Alabama. Dr. Weir received a number of awards and recognition for his passion, which was teaching and mentoring.
The legacy of his life will be forever cherished by his wife of 59 years, Birdie; his daughter Angela (Chris); his sister Annie Ruth (the late Albert) Moore of Los Angeles, CA; his sister-in-law Mattie (the late Marshall) Tools; his sister-in-law Eloise (the late Otis) Oldham; his nieces Diane Oldham of Buffalo, NY, Ophelia Oldham of Cleveland, OH, Sharon Oldham of Cleveland, OH, Kim Oldham of Buffalo, NY, Betty Jean Oldham of Buffalo, NY and Gwenee (Sherman) Walton; his nephews Anthony Moore of Los Angeles, CA, Thomas Christopher Moore of Los Angeles, CA, Calvin (Roberta) Oldham of Cleveland, OH, Darrell Oldham of Buffalo, NY and Kelvin (Felicia). Oldham of Murfreesboro, TN. Also left to cherish his memory are his goddaughters Beverly (Cedric) Anderson of Birmingham, AL and Willa Garrett of Birmingham, AL along with a host of other relatives and friends.
The celebration of life for Dr. Theo Weir will be held on Friday, February 26, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Valhalla Funeral Home 698 Winchester RD NE Huntsville, Alabama 35811. A public visitation will be held on Thursday, February 25, 2021 from 5-7pm at Valhalla Funeral Home.
