It is with great sadness that the family of Vickey Liles Sullivan announces that she went to be with The Lord on Thursday morning, November 29, 2018 in Huntsville, Alabama. She peacefully departed this life surrounded by family and friends and is now rejoicing with the angels.
Vickey, daughter of the late Loice Liles and Geneva Liles Childers, was born November 20, 1957 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She attended the public schools of Etowah County, Alabama and was a graduate of the University of Alabama. She also earned a Master’s degree from Alabama A&M University. At an early age she professed her faith in Jesus Christ as a member of East Gadsden Church of God. She was united in holy matrimony to Darrell Edwin Sullivan on June 8 of 1984. This union was blessed with two children.
Vickey found joy in being an active member of Life Church Huntsville where she faithfully served as the President of Women’s Ministries and was the first and only woman to ever hold the chairperson for the Christian Education Board at her church. Vickey also enjoyed serving as a choir member, organist, Sunday School teacher, and Girls Club teacher throughout her lifetime.
Vickey was passionate about education and fulfilled her dream of becoming a school teacher as an employee of the Madison County School System where she taught for over 30 years. She began as a high school teacher and later transitioned to her role as the Instructional Technology Specialist where she educated teachers for the last twenty-five years. In this role, she also served as the director of the Madison County Librarians Association and the Technology in Motion group. She truly loved her job and has impacted the lives of countless students and teachers during her career.
Vickey’s family was her pride and joy. She loved attending Alabama football games with them, having game nights with friends, and always made everyone around her feel welcome and loved. She is lovingly and proudly remembered by her husband of 34 years, Darrell, mother Geneva, sister Carolyn (Greg), sons Matthew and Jacob (Hannah), and step-daughter Amy, along with her grandson Logan, and many family and friends.
A celebration of Vickey’s life will be held on Monday, December 3, at Life Church Huntsville preceding her burial at Valhalla Cemetery. Those who knew Vickey are invited to a visitation Sunday, December 2 at 5-8pm to reminisce with and support her family and friends.
Vickey was a friend, mentor, and leader to countless people, and her legacy will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her.
