On Friday November 13, 2020 Vicky Ann Downing, devoted wife, mother, and friend triumphantly entered through the gates of heaven into the loving embrace of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Vicky was born January 11, 1953 in Provo, Utah to Douglas and Minnie Johnson. She graduated from Provo High School in 1971 and attended Ricks College for a brief period. Vicky joined the United States Navy Reserve in 1973 and served as a Navy Hospital Corpsman. She was Honorably discharged in February 1979 and was immensely proud of her service to the Navy and the United States. Vicky had many occupations over the years however her most treasured title was that of wife and mother.

On July 31, 1982 Vicky married Kenneth Downing in Jerome, Idaho. From that union was one son, Ethan of whom she is extremely proud. An incredibly special place in Vicky’s heart was held for her dear friend and sister in Christ, Marie Keefer. Vicky loved Sarah Frazier as her own daughter and their bond is unbreakable. Vicky’s heart was full with the addition of Caleb and Molly Frazier that she loves unconditionally as her own grandchildren. Vicky’s passion was simply loving others. She loved to give gifts especially at Christmas that generated countless smiles, laughs and memories. She was very talented at flower arrangements that will grace the living rooms of friends and family for many years to come. She is known for her contagious smile, giving heart and love of Hallmark Christmas movies and maybe a slightly sarcastic remark sprinkled in for fun.

Vicky was preceded in her earthly separation by her father Doug, brother Kent, and sister Judy.

She is survived by her husband Ken and son Ethan, mother Minnie Johnson of Provo, Utah and brother Wayne Johnson also of Provo, Utah.

A visitation will be held Thursday November 19, 2020 from 6 until 8 pm at Valhalla Funeral Home at 698 Winchester Road NE, Huntsville Al. 35811. From the moment I met Vicky, we were friends! Her wonderful personality, giving spirit and unbelievable talent with crafts, food, being a homemaker were amazing. I remember all the decorations she made for the office where Ken worked with Gen Sayler and me. And all the table wreaths she made for our Christmas dinner. She was a true friend to me. There will never be anyone like her in my life. I know Heaven is a better place with her in it. On earth, she left a hole than no one else can fill.

Hi Ken,

It’s been so long since you guys lived here in Idaho, but I still remember spending time with the two of you. I remember most the kind spirit and sweet smile that Vicky always shared with everyone.

We are praying for you and your family.

Vicky has been an amazingly strong woman of faith. She never took it for granted that Christ had redeemed her and she lived that out in every conversation I had with her. Her family and friends were her life, specifically the great loves of her life, Ken and Ethan, both of whom she was always so immensely proud. Her authenticity and the delightful humor she so freely shared with everyone still brings a smile to my heart, a sweet fragrance. Keeping Ken and Ethan and the Keefer and Frazier families especially in prayer, as well as her beloved Bible study group friends.

Vicky was one of the most thoughtful and caring women that I have ever met. I was Ken's roommate on two different deployments. Whenever Vicky sent care packages to Ken, she never forgot to include something for us roommates. She made sure that the holidays, particularly Christmas, were special...and they surely were. Vicky has always had a special place in my heart and she will be missed.

Ken and Ethan~
Please know our prayers are with you as you grieve. Vicky meant so much to our family, as do you. She will be missed dearly in our everyday lives, but knowing she’s with Jesus is truly comforting.
