Born on April 7, 2014, in Huntsville, Alabama, Walt was a vibrant, curious boy who loved airplanes, LEGO, and dinosaurs. He was an incredible big brother, and he loved his sister, Evie, more than anything. They enjoyed spending time outdoors in their “Backyarden,” stomping through the woods or playing in their sandbox. Walt was a proud Rocket City kid, and enjoyed countless trips to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center. He loved airplanes from an early age and looked forward to annual camping trips to EAA Airventure in Oshkosh, WI. He developed an encyclopedic knowledge of dinosaurs and other prehistoric species, and was always willing to share this knowledge with anyone and everyone he met. Walt was incredibly smart—and he was also sweet, honest, and kind-hearted. His laugh was contagious, and we are missing it dearly.
Walt was in first grade at Lynn Fanning Elementary School. He had a true love of learning, and reveled in the wonders of normal, everyday school life—riding the bus, lunch (especially meatball subs!), and recess. He was incredibly fond of his classmates and teachers.
At the age of 3, Walt was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma, a type of soft tissue cancer. Despite his diagnosis and the rigors of treatment, Walt maintained his bottomless positivity and humor. He was a source of light to all who knew him.
He is survived by his parents, Aaron and Julie Wypyszynski; little sister, Evelyn “Evie” Wypyszynski; grandparents, Keith and Judy Wypyszynski and Paul Jansen and Barb Millis; aunts and uncles, Jennifer Jansen, John (Shannon) Jansen, and Amy (Mark) Kasvin; cousins, Kerrigan and Cormac Jansen; as well as numerous extended family members and many, many friends and playmates whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Mary Anne Jansen. They are most likely enjoying breakfast together in heaven.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Huntsville, Alabama, on Friday, May 7, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. CDT.
